STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. James (Skip) Crowdell, 73, of Westerleigh, a transportation analyst and veteran who coached several Island sports teams, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Born and raised in West New Brighton, he graduated from St. Peter's Boys High School. He settled in Westerleigh in 1971. Mr. Crowdell earned a bachelor's degree from the former Richmond College, St. George. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed stateside, and was a member of the Joseph Merrell Post, American Legion.
Mr. Crowdell coached ice hockey at his alma mater, St. Peter's, for many years, and also was a hockey coach at Monsignor Farrell High School and lronbound Hockey in Newark, NJ. He coached his son's baseball teams
and was an umpire for the Staten Island Softball Association. Mr. Crowdell was a member of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association and the USA Ice Hockey Association. He was an avid sports fan, and loved rooting for the New York Rangers and the New York Yankees.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, the former Grace Vivian DeSantro; his sons, James, John and Anthony; his daughter, Christine Crowdell; his sister, Alexis Crowdell and eight grandchildren. James, John and Anthony are…
